Welcome to Academy 13: The Imhotep Institute for Young Scholars.

 

This is the wonderful work of educating our young people and our community.  We, at Academy 13, love this work.  We tell ourselves that teaching is a calling, not a job.  It is not a chore, it is a love.  It is not a career, it is a way of life. 

 

We are, at Academy 13, educators who seek to ignite in each and every young person who enters the doors of our Academy, the fire to change the world for the greater.

Today, educating America's children is a restoration project.  It is an attempt to repair the conditions that continue to contribute to the degradation and exclusion a large portion of American society.  

 

The Imhotep Institute for Young Scholars is set to reinstitute wholistic concepts of education rooted in the KIKONGO concept of UMBUNTU.  I AM BECAUSE WE ARE, AND WE ARE BECAUSE I AM. 

 

It is the contention of Academy 13’s founding members, executive staff, educators, and support staff that every young person who enters Academy 13 experiences the essence of UMBUNTU because we know that our future is determined only by what we teach our children.  At Academy 13, education is a liberatory event every day in a child's life. 

 

We are passionate about educating our young people.  And we have been shown a grand design and exemplar for ensuring the perpetuity of Academy 13.  While exploring various funding avenues to ensure that we create a learning environment most conducive to continuing a legacy of excellence, we have chosen as our namesake and exemplar, the polymath, Imhotep.  We decided to follow the blueprint given to us by Imhotep in the design of the Step Pyramid of Saqqara.  Underneath the visual display of excellence will always be a constant flow of energy to support this institution.  And we seek your support and energy to bring this transformative institution to life.
